LTFRB to rule on Skyway bus mishap

Reinir Padua - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board will soon rule on the appeal of Don Mariano Transit Corp. on the cancellation of its bus franchises following a fatal Skyway accident last year.

LTFRB chair Winston Ginez said the draft resolution had been submitted to them by the board’s legal division.

The bus company filed the motion for reconsideration, asking the board to set aside its Jan. 14 ruling that cancelled the seven franchises held by the firm covering 78 bus units.

This followed the board’s investigation on the fatal Skyway accident on Dec. 16, 2013 that killed 21 people, including the driver.

The board had considered the past accidents the firm’s buses had gotten involved in and the discovery that the bus in the Skyway accident had used a chassis that had been illegally transferred.
