Informal settlers in Valenzuela get new homes

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Vice President Jejomar Binay awarded yesterday 252 housing units to informal settler families living near Tullahan River in Valenzuela City.

Binay, chairman of the Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council and PagIBIG Fund, said the turnover of the housing units is part of the five-year near-city or in-city relocation program of the government under the P50 billion housing fund released by President Aquino.

He said 72 informal settler families can transfer to their new homes in Barangay Ugong, Valenzuela. Another 180 families are waiting for the completion of their applications for electric connection.

Binay said the housing units are components of the 17 three-story buildings that will be completed in August this year, and will generate a total of 540 units with floor area of 27 square meters.

“Nine more buildings will soon be built in Barangay Ugong under the administration of the local government,” he said.

The National Housing Agency funded and implemented the construction of the project. The Valenzuela City government, on the other hand, provided the property and undertook the implementation of the land development component.

The site, where the housing units are built, has water and power supply systems, sewerage treatment plant, concrete roads, drainage system and streetlights along the main road. – Jose Rodel Clapano, Rey Galupo
