MANILA, Philippines - Pasay Special Weapons and Tactics police officers, backed up by Metropolitan Manila Development Authority flood control personnel, flushed out yesterday seven alleged burglars who tried to dig a tunnel underneath a pawnshop in Libertad, Pasay City.
The presence of the alleged burglars was reported by employees of the Magdalena Pawnshop on Arnaiz street after they heard sounds coming from under the street at around 11 a.m.
When an employee checked the drain pipes, he saw three men on a makeshift polystyrene raft. The employees called the police.
Responding policemen sealed the drainage exits and at around 6 p.m., at least seven persons who emerged from the drain pipe exit on E. Dela Cruz street were arrested and brought to the Pasay City General Hospital for medical examination.
Police officers declined to name the suspects pending further investigation.
