MANILA, Philippines - A Quezon province policeman was identified as one of two men who shot a National Capital Region Police Office finance officer in Calamba, Laguna last Tuesday, an official said yesterday.
Police Officer 1 Felix Gacayan was put under restrictive custody after Superintendent Vilma Sarte “pointed at his picture†when she was shown photos of probable suspects, said Calabarzon police director Chief Superintendent Jesus Gatchalian.
Sarte is recovering from gunshot wounds in the face and hands at a hospital.
Sarte had filed a complaint in October 2013 against three police instructors, including Gacayan, for the alleged hazing of trainees. Gacayan was transferred to the Quezon provincial police, reportedly as a result of the complaint.
Superintendent Marvin Saro, Calamba City police chief, said charges of frustrated murder will be filed against Gacayan and his still unidentified accomplice.
“We have an airtight case against Gacayan,†he said, adding that they are hunting down the other attacker.
Sarte was driving to work and was near the South Luzon Expressway’s Silangan exit when a car occupied by two men blocked her way at around 8:30 a.m. Tuesday.
When the two men shot at her, she got out of her car and ran. The two men chased her and continued to shoot at her until she fell.
The attackers sped away in a Toyota sedan that bore a Manila Police District sticker, investigators said.
