2 cops hurt in ambush

MANILA, Philippines - Two policemen were wounded when ambushed by armed men during an anti-crime drive in Quezon City Thursday night.

Police Officer 2 Randolf Olivar suffered gunshot wounds in both legs while PO1 Archie Evangelista was hit in the lower abdomen, right hand and both feet.

Quezon City Police District director Chief Superintendent Richard Albano said suspects Edwin Lopez and Parok Hussein were arrested following the encounter in San Roque II, Barangay Pag-asa at past 11 p.m. They were identified by the two wounded policemen.

Policemen did not recover guns from the two suspects but based on the bullets that hit Olivar and Evangelista, the suspects were armed with 9mm pistols.

Yesterday, Metro Manila police chief Director Carmelo Valmoria visited the two policemen at the hospital, pinning medals for wounded personnel on them. “This is to recognize our personnel. I would like to commend these policemen,” he said. – Reinir Padua, Non Alquitran
