MANILA, Philippines - A visitor of alleged French-Israeli drug lord Yaacov Amsalem was arrested on Thursday night for allegedly smuggling cocaine and marijuana into the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI).
Acilo Peligro, reportedly a military reservist, dropped by the detention cell about 7:30 p.m. He carried with him meat, vegetables, and snacks, including four canisters of potato chips.
Peligro was asked to show an identification card and submit his handcarried items. During the search, five sachets of cocaine, four sachets of dried marijuana leaves and P20,000 were found in the canisters, the NBI said.
Asilo claimed he was only ordered by Rabi Yosef Levi, who is from a Jewish Shabbat Center in Makati, to bring food to Amsalem, ABS-CBN reported.
Amsalem was arrested by NBI agents in Makati City in November last year after four years of reportedly hiding in the Philippines. He is wanted in Australia for allegedly leading a drug syndicate.
