Motorbike rider dismembered in Pasig mishap

Non Alquitran - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - A 45-year-old man was killed when the motorcycle he was riding hit the railing of the C-5 Road flyover and he was dragged by a van in Pasig City Wednesday.

The body of Gino Martin Contreras, of Makati City, was dismembered, Police Officer 3 Edwin Cruz said. Contreras was on his way home from an awarding ceremony in Libis, Quezon City for participating in a motorcycle  earlier this month.

A witness, Orlando Santos, claimed that Contreras was speeding as he came from Libis and hit the flyover railing when he lost control of the motorcycle (6158 PU).

When Contreras and his motorcycle fell to the pavement, a van cruising in low gear ran over them, Santos said.

“There was a loud thud and the driver and his motorcycle were dragged by a van whose driver apparently failed to notice them. The victim was driving at high speed. There was no collision with another vehicle,” the witness said.

The van driver left behind Contreras’ dismembered body and his wrecked motorcycle, Santos said.

Contreras was identified through a driver’s license recovered in his wallet.

However, Cruz said Contreras hit the railing while allegedly racing with another motorcycle rider.

According to Cruz, the recovered motorcycle parts will be turned over to the victim’s relatives.

Cruz said he hopes that surveillance cameras of nearby establishments had recorded the incident so the drivers of the other motorcycle and the van would be identified and charged for Contreras’ death.
