3 Pakistanis charged for selling drugs

MANILA, Philippines - The Quezon City prosecutor’s office has recommended the filing of charges against three Pakistanis arrested last month for allegedly selling tablets of Valium (generic name diazepam, an anti-anxiety drug) worth P100,000 to an undercover police officer.

In a four-page resolution released yesterday, Assistant City Prosecutor Alessandro Jurado recommended the filing of drug charges against Kashi Malik alias Pakis and Waqar Younas, 25; Omar Nashir, 23; and Joni Alik alias Jawad Younas, 23.

The three allegedly sold P8,000 Valium tablets during a buy-bust operation in Barangay Old Balara on Dec. 8, 2013.

The Quezon City Police District Anti-Illegal Drug Special Operations Task Group, which staged the operation, allegedly also confiscated shabu, temazepan, ketamine, cocaine hydrochloride, methylphenidate, codeine, clonazepam, and alprazolam.

During the inquest proceedings, they claimed that on the night of Dec. 7, 2013, the police entered their house and arrested them without arrest warrants.

The three alleged that the police officers ransacked their house, stole their belongings and P20,000 cash, and demanded P20 million in exchange for their release.

In his resolution, Jurado said the Pakistanis’ claims are best appreciated by the court during a full-blown trial. He recommended no bail for the accused.
