Human waste spills from Valenzuela jail

Ramil Bajo, Rey Galupo - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Human waste spilled out of the Valenzuela City Jail’s septic tank onto Maysan Road yesterday afternoon.

Inspector Michael Aceveda, jail duty officer, said they reported the clogged toilets and drains, caused by a full septic tank, to the city hall.

He said city hall personnel arrived at around 2 p.m. and opened the septic tank’s valve. However, the tank’s contents spilled and contaminated surrounding streets, particularly Maysan Road.

Jail warden Superintendent Sailas Laurio Jr. was not available for comment.

The city’s fire department responded and flushed the waste into a manhole, but not before residents had complained about the foul odor.

Aceveda could not say what they would do to avoid the incident from happening again.
