Cops insist: Willie Nep’s grandson did not know attackers

Mike Frialde - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Marikina City police investigators remain convinced that the grandson of comic Willie Nepomuceno and his three friends were just victims of an attack triggered by mistaken identity.

“The victims do not know the suspects. It is a case of mistaken identity,” Marikina police chief Senior Superintendent Reynaldo Jagmis said yesterday.

Jagmis said two suspects have already been identified and charged along with two other “John Does.”

Jagmis said only one suspect, Mark Bersilla, 30, was arrested. He declined to name the other suspect, who has yet to be caught.

Sean Gabriel Nepomuceno, 16, sustained gunshot wounds in the liver, intestine and pelvic bone while his friend, Frank Raven Diocson, 17, was sent home after being treated for a gunshot wound in the leg.

Jagmis said the victims were attacked at a burger stand after spending time in a computer shop in Barangay Marikina Heights. Their attackers accused the victims of engaging in a quarrel in the computer shop.

“Before the group of the victims arrived in the computer shop, there was a commotion inside. We are now pursuing the mistaken identity angle in our investigation of the incident,” he earlier said.
