Man donates kidney to wife

Perseus Echeminada - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - A 48-year-old computer engineer has given one of his kidneys to his wife to spare her from lifetime dialysis.

Marie Madlangbayan told The STAR that she was given new hope following her surgery at the National Kidney and Transplant Institute in Quezon City.

She said a medical team led by Dr. Ernesto Gerial Jr. conducted a kidney transplant on her on Dec. 17, 2013.

“I can cook now, clean the house and my worries on dialysis were gone,” she said.

Her husband, Roel, offered to donate his kidney to her after learning that she needed a transplant.

Prior to the transplant, Marie said she had to undergo dialysis three times a week.
