Ex-NBI chief returns to previous DOJ post

Edu Punay - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Former National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) director Nonnatus Rojas has been reappointed to his previous post as regional prosecutor of the Department of Justice (DOJ).

Rojas took his oath of office before DOJ Secretary Leila de Lima last Monday.

“Welcome back to your original family,” the DOJ chief told Rojas after the rites.

Rojas resigned from his post last September amid allegations that some NBI officials were involved in illicit activities.

In an interview, De Lima said President Aquino has not yet chosen a new NBI chief in place of Rojas.

“I have submitted my recommendation but I cannot share it yet. It’s just fairly recent that I submitted it so perhaps the President would act on it in January,” she said.

Prior to his appointment as NBI chief last year, Rojas was the head prosecutor of DOJ Region 1.

Assistant Director Medardo de Lemos is the current officer-in-charge of the NBI.
