MANILA, Philippines - To help ease the holiday traffic congestion along EDSA, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has opened a “zipper lane†or a counterflow lane from SM Megamall to Pioneer street in Mandaluyong City.
MMDA Chairman Francis Tolentino said yesterday the zipper lane starts from the inner northbound lane from SM Megamall up to Pioneer, along EDSA.
Tolentino says the zipper lane intends to ease traffic congestion from Ortigas going to Makati during the morning rush hours. The zipper lane will be opened from 7:30 to 10:30 a.m., except weekends, until Dec. 23.
According to the MMDA, at least 1,200 vehicles per hour go through each of EDSA’s lanes.
