Suspect slain in rob try on cop’s wife

MANILA, Philippines - A man was shot dead after reportedly trying to rob a policeman’s wife and then trying to grab the policeman’s gun in Malate, Manila Wednesday night.

Senior Police Officer 1 Joel Aquino and his wife, Amelia, were about to have dinner at a restaurant on Adriatico street when the attack occurred, Senior Police Officer 3 Glenn Vallejo said.

Amelia had just gotten out of their car when Anthony Amarillento tried to rob her at knifepoint. Aquino, who was parking the car, tried to stop Amarillento from hurting his wife.

The suspect reportedly lunged at Aquino, prompting him to pull out his gun. Amelia ran to a nearby police precinct. Police Officer 1 Isagani Jimenez, who responded to her call for help, shot Amarillento.
