Janvic Mateo - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - A 48-year-old man was shot dead by a still unidentified gunman while he was at his father’s wake in a chapel in Navotas City yesterday morning.

Alfredo Leongson died on the spot following the attack at around 3:30 a.m. in Barangay San Roque, said Navotas City police chief Superintendent Eduardo Giro.

The police officer said Leongson was sleeping near his father’s coffin when the gunman appeared and shot the victim through the chapel’s window. His killer immediately left the area.

Giro said crime scene investigators recovered four empty shells fired from a 9mm pistol in the area. The victim’s body was brought to a funeral home for autopsy.

Police are conducting a follow-up investigation to determine the motive and the identity of the man who shot Leongson.
