Precinct chief hurt in car chase

MANILA, Philippines - A precinct commander in Manila was wounded while chasing a car theft suspect in Tondo Tuesday morning, police said yesterday.

Senior Inspector William Santos, chief of the Padre Algue police community precinct, was reported to be in stable condition at the Gat Andres Bonifacio Medical Center. The precinct is under Manila Police District Station 2.

Santos received a tip that a car was being stolen near the intersection of Masangkay and Estero de Magdalene streets. Santos and his men went to the area and were met with gunshots. A bullet ripped through Santos’ right leg and hit his left leg.
