2 nabbed for rob try on Indian moneylender
MANILA, Philippines - Two men were arrested over the weekend after attempting to rob an Indian moneylender in Quezon City.
Renato Pablo, 26, was caught in the act of robbing Jagmail Singh while Jayson dela Serna, 21, was arrested in a follow-up operation, said Superintendent Limuel Obon, commander of the Quezon City Police District Station 10.
Obon said motorcycle-riding robbers targeting Indians were rampant in Barangay Immaculate Conception, but the suspects used lighters shaped like guns to scare their victims.
Singh was collecting loan payments from his clients at the Kamuning market before noon Sunday when the two suspects, on a motorcycle, approached him and showed him their fake guns. Singh ran away and shouted for help, catching the attention of village watchmen, Senior Police Officer 1 John Sales said.
Obon said Pablo was arrested after he fell off his motorcycle while trying to escape. Dela Serna escaped but was arrested at his house in San Francisco del Monte later that day.
