Spanish magistrate visits SC
MANILA, Philippines - Chief Justice Ma. Lourdes Sereno welcomed Encarnacion Roca Trias, of the Magistrada del Tribunal Constitucional de España, who visited the Supreme Court (SC) last Thursday.
In a statement, the SC said Trias made a courtesy call on Nov. 28. She was accompanied by Ambassador Jorge Domecq and deputy head of mission Ignacio Perez Cambra.
Also present during the courtesy call were retired Justices Adolfo Azcuna and Hilarion Aquino as well as dean Ernesto Maceda Jr. of the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila.
Trias was a member of the Supreme Court of Spain, representing the sector of lawyers of recognized competence from 2005 to 2012. She is the fourth woman in the history of Spain to be appointed judge of the Spanish Supreme Court after Milagros Calvo, Celsa Pico and Margarita Robles.
She is now a member of the Constitutional Court, having been appointed by royal decree in 2012.
