MANILA, Philippines - Manila Archbishop Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle yesterday warned the public against fake social media accounts that use his name to solicit donations.

The Archdiocese of Manila said there are six bogus Facebook accounts for the 56-year-old Tagle.

He asked the people not to patronize these social networking sites and to send complaints to Facebook to close these accounts.

Tagle’s official Facebook account under the name “Bishop Luis Antonio G. Tagle” currently has 366,868 likes and can be accessed at https://www.facebook.com/ArchbishopTagle.

It is being managed by the Jesuit Communications Foundation.

“I discovered that a lot of Facebook accounts bearing my name have been created by people I do not know. Some of those accounts are even being used to solicit money from people,” said Tagle in an article posted on the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines news site.

The six bogus Facebook accounts are Archbishop Luis Antonio Gokim Tagle, D.D., STD; BishopLuis Antonio G. Tagle; Bishop-luis Antonio Tagle; BishopLuis Antoniotagle; Luis Antonio Cardinal Gokim Tagle, and Luis Antonio Gokim Cardinal Tagle.
