Noy to lead Bonifacio’s 150th birth anniversary rites in Caloocan
MANILA, Philippines - President Aquino will lead the country’s commemoration of the 150th birth anniversary of Andres Bonifacio at the Great Plebeian’s National Shrine in Caloocan City on Saturday.
Caloocan Mayor Oscar Malapitan, who is set to give his welcome remarks during the event, said the President is scheduled to deliver his speech at 8 a.m., marking the Supremo’s sesquicentennial birthday.
Aquino will lead the flagraising and wreath-laying rites together with National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) chairperson Maria Serena Diokno and Armed Forces of the Philippines chief Gen. Emmanuel Bautista.
Malapitan and NHCP executive director Ludovico Badoy will stand as witnesses to the ceremonies.
NHCP officials and other guests will present to Aquino the Bonifacio Commemorative Coin and Stamp that will officially launch the celebratory items.
Also part of the program is the reading of Andres Bonifacio Decalogue by representatives from the youth, workers, professional and women’s sectors.
The city government advised motorists that a traffic rerouting will be enforced on Saturday to give way to the celebration.
All four major roads leading to the monument – Rizal Avenue Extension from 10th Avenue, EDSA from Gen. Simon street, MacArthur Highway from Calle Cuatro, and Samson Road from Heroes del 96 – will be closed to traffic.
