MANILA, Philippines - Two men were slain in a firefight with policemen after they allegedly robbed passengers of a jeepney in Quezon City Friday night.
The two men remain unidentified, said investigator Police Officer 2 Hermogenes Capili. He added that another man escaped following the shootout at the corner of D. Tuazon and Quezon Avenues.
Capili said the three robbers boarded a jeepney (license plate TXE-724) driven by Bobby Caseres, 29, at the Welcome Rotonda area. As the jeepney sped along Quezon Avenue at around 10:45 p.m., the three men robbed the passengers then got out at the corner of D. Tuazon Avenue.
However, a patrol team from the Galas police station saw the men getting off the jeepney as the passengers called for help.
Capili said the police officers ran after the fleeing robbers, who shot at their pursuers, triggering a shootout.
The passengers’ belongings recovered from the slain men included two bags, a pouch, a wallet, and a cell phone. Also seized from the robbers were three .38 caliber revolvers supposedly used in the gunfight.
