Trucks with relief goods exempt from traffic schemes

MANILA, Philippines - Trucks carrying relief goods to three identified repacking stations are exempted from the modified truck ban and the unified vehicular volume reduction program (UVVRP) or the number coding scheme starting yesterday until Nov. 30, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) said yesterday.

MMDA General Manager Corazon Jimenez said the exemption covers trucks carrying relief items and equipment to the Ninoy Aquino Stadium, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) relief station on NAIA Road in Pasay City, and the Air 21 Warehouse on Old MIA Road in Barangay Vitalez, Parañaque City.

The exemption is expected to speed up the delivery of relief goods to areas worst hit by Super Typhoon Yolanda, Jimenez said.

Under the modified truck ban, trucks are banned from the roads of Metro Manila between 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. every day except Sundays and holidays.

Meanwhile, the UVVRP bans vehicles from the Metro’s major thoroughfares once a week depending on the last digit of their license plate number.
