MANILA, Philippines - An Indian couple and their six-year-old son were arrested for allegedly stealing more than P4,000 worth of clothes at a Quezon City mall on Friday.

Singh Kaler, 45, and his wife Kaur Deep, 35, were subjected to inquest proceedings for theft yesterday with the prosecutor recommending their indictment in court, said Senior Police Officer 1 Pascual Fabreag.

Fabreag said the fiscal recommended a bail of P20,000 for the temporary freedom of the couple.

The boy will be turned over to the custody of social workers, police said.

Fabreag said the family was arrested at past 5 p.m. after they were caught shoplifting clothes from the department store of a mall along Commonwealth Avenue.

The recovered items worth P4,309 included two pairs of pants, two polo shirts and undergarments.

Security guard Rommel Dapilaga told police that he noticed the suspects acting suspiciously as soon as they entered the mall.

He said the clothes were found hidden around Kaler’s waist and pants.
