MANILA, Philippines - A man, who escaped from a Bicol jail farm while awaiting judgment on a rape case against him, surrendered to police Tuesday.
Rolly Cabaltera was urged to surrender by his own mother, who feared for the fugitive’s life.
Quezon City Police District director Chief Superintendent Richard Albano said Cabaltero escaped from the Tinangis Jail and Penal Farm along with nine other inmates after they sawed off the iron grills of their detention cell on Oct. 30.
Cabaltera had gone to TV5, which in turn contacted Albano to effect the fugitive’s surrender.
According to Albano, the suspect’s escape could increase his sentence if he is convicted of rape.
