MANILA, Philippines - A grenade was found in front of a building in Quezon City Tuesday night.
Police said the MK2 fragmentation grenade was discovered by security guard Liberato Bato under a Honda Civic parked in front of F.H. Manere building in Barangay Malaya at past 9 p.m.
Senior Police Officer 1 Eric Lazo said a box of matchsticks and a lighted cigarette were wrapped around the explosive.
Lazo said the grenade was recovered by operatives of the Quezon City Police District-Explosives and Ordnance Division.
It could have exploded with the lit cigarette as the timer, bomb experts said.
Seeing that a lighted cigarette was attached to the bomb, Bato quickly picked it up and placed it on the roadside.
The security guard then reported the incident to the police.
