Drunk guard fires gun in cemetery

Aie Balagtas See - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - A drunk security guard was arrested yesterday for allegedly firing his gun after badmouthing visitors of North Greenpark Cemetery in Blumentritt, Manila.

Edgar Redoblo, 37, officer-in-charge of Prime Ship Security Agency, was the subject of a complaint by Nicole Pauline Villanueva and Bernadette Matias with the local police.

“The complainants were visiting the tombs of their departed relatives when the suspect, in civilian clothes and firearm tucked in his (waistband), shouted unsavory remarks,” Senior Police Officer 2 Emmanuel Barboza said.

Redoblo seemed angry at the victims as he hurled invectives at them while asking if they own the cemetery.

An argument ensued, prompting Redoblo – in front of the victims and their children – to fire his gun. The victims ran and sought the help of policemen stationed at the neighboring Manila North Cemetery (MNC).

Redoble was brought to Manila Police District Station 3.

The incident was by far only two of the untoward incident recorded in the MNC.

As of 3 p.m. yesterday, a misunderstanding among the visitors and the officials ensued after MNC closed the cemetery’s Gate 3.

Some of the visitors who insisted that they wanted to use the gate tried to destroy the padlock.

Officials and the visitors agreed that they would reopen the gate and close it at 7 p.m.
