Navotas bet’s niece slain in drive-by shooting

MANILA, Philippines - A 20-year-old housewife, the niece of a candidate for chairman of Barangay North Bay Boulevard South (NBBS), was killed in a drive-by shooting Thursday night.

Rachelle Legaspi and several supporters of her uncle, Totong Legaspi, were drinking in front of their house – which also served as her uncle’s political headquarters – along M. Naval street when two men on a motorcycle arrived and started shooting at them just before 10 p.m., police said.

A source said the gunmen missed Totong since the businessman went into the house several minutes before the attack.

The gunmen sped toward Tondo, Manila while Rachelle was rushed to the Tondo Medical Center, where she was declared dead on arrival.

Investigators recovered two slugs and four .45 caliber shells at the scene.

A source said Totong is reportedly a consultant of former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and other politicians.

Barangay NBBS is among the areas included in the National Capital Region Police Office’s election watchlist.
