MANILA, Philippines - The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) will conduct a major reblocking on EDSA this weekend, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) announced yesterday.
MMDA Chairman Francis Tolentino said the reblocking will start at 1 a.m. on Oct. 26 and ends at 5 a.m. of Oct. 29.
The following portions of EDSA will be affected by the reblocking: between Estanislao and C. Jose street (northbound) in Pasay City and in Quezon City, Kaingin Road and Dario Bridge 1 (southbound, second lane), Gate 4 and Gate 3 (northbound, second lane), Ermin Garcia and New York streets (southbound, second lane).
In Mandaluyong City, the affected EDSA sections are between Reliance and Libertad streets (northbound) and Boni Avenue and Mayon street (southbound).
In Makati, reblocking will be done on EDSA between McKinley Road and Guadalupe Bridge (southbound, fourth and fifth lane) and Guadalupe Bridge and South Drive (southbound, fourth and fifth lane).
In Caloocan, the reblocking will be done on EDSA sections between Evangelista and Mascardo street before and after T. Sora street lane five after Malvar street (northbound, lane five).
Also affected by the reblocking are Araneta Avenue between Palanza street and Bayani (northbound), Quezon City; C.P. Garcia Avenue between Magiting street and University Avenue (first lane from sidewalk going to University Avenue) in Quezon City.
Tolentino advised motorists to use alternate routes as he assured that all roads will be fully passable by the morning of Oct. 29.
Tolentino said the DPWH wanted to take advantage of the weekend and the barangay elections to make the repairs as there are fewer vehicles expected on EDSA. He added that the weather was also projected to be good during the weeked.
