Supporter arrested as siblings gun for same post
MANILA, Philippines - A supporter of a barangay chairman in Caloocan City was arrested Thursday for carrying a gun while the official was arguing with his sister, who is running against him in the Oct. 28 barangay elections.
Jerry Reyes, 41, was nabbed by policemen who responded to the scene after barangay councilwoman Maria Cruz sought police assistance when her brother, Barangay 79 chairman Manuel Cruz, and two other supporters barged into her house Thursday afternoon.
Maria, who garnered the highest votes among the members of the barangay council, assumed the chairmanship in 2010 after Manuel was suspended for poking a gun and threatening them over a family problem.
