Scavenger mistakes dead infant for doll

Reinir Padua - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - A scavenger took home the body of an infant, which he had mistaken for a doll, after finding it in a garbage bin outside a building in Quezon City yesterday.

The infant, swaddled in a white cloth, was in a box wrapped in blue plastic.

Police Officer 2 Marlon dela Vega said the baby boy was around six to eight months old.

He said Sulpicio Bayod, 45, was rummaging through the bin outside a building in Barangay E. Rodriguez when he saw a foot sticking out of the box.

Bayod told police he brought the package home with him. When he unwrapped the package as he was about to enter the house, he realized it was a newborn baby.

A slip of paper in the box stated that the baby was born to a certain Jackilou Aquino on Wednesday at 7:10 a.m.
