2 religious groups set conferences
MANILA, Philippines - Two religious groups have scheduled conferences this week.
The Archdiocese of Manila will hold a three-day Philippine Conference on New Evangelization at the University of Santo Tomas starting today.
Manila Archbishop Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle said the conference will be instrumental in reigniting not only the Filipino’s Catholic faith, but as well as the church’s mission of serving poor members of the society, according to the archdiocese’s website.
The event is a “response to the call for new evangelization – a new way of being Church that responds to the emergent powerful culture affected by developments in information technologies, new media, and social networking that influence the people’s way of thinking.â€
From Oct. 18 to 20, about 1,400 foreign delegates from the United States, Taiwan and Indonesia will attend a special Bible convention of Jehovah’s Witnesses at the Cuneta Astrodome in Pasay City.
They will join some 10,000 devotees based in Metro Manila in listening to lectures intended to promote strong family ties, strengthen marriage, provide fellowship and encourage the habit of daily Bible reading, according to Dean Jacek, spokesperson of the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society in the Philippines.
Jacek said the lectures will be held in 83 different venues nationwide.
