Fire hits LRT 1 power cable

Rainier Allan Ronda - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - A fire destroyed part of a power cable at the Light Rail Transit (LRT) Line 1 Wednesday night, causing delays and power fluctuations that affected the railway’s operations yesterday.

The power cable in the southbound section of the rail tracks between the United Nations Avenue and Pedro Gil caught fire just before midnight Wednesday, LRT Authority spokesperson Hernando Cabrera said.

The damaged section was replaced, but the fire caused power fluctuations that prompted railway officials to reduce train speed and deploy fewer trains all day yesterday, he said.

Cabrera assured commuters that the LRT Line 1 will resume normal operations today.
