MANILA, Philippines - A lawmaker is pushing for the establishment of desks dedicated to handling crimes committed against lesbians and gays in every police station to ensure that victims of hate or sexually oriented crimes will have a place to go to for assistance.
Laguna Rep. Sol Aragones filed House Bill 2571, which seeks to amend Republic Act 8551, also known as the Philippine National Police Reform and Reorganization Act of 1998, by adding another desk in all police stations to attend to cases involving crimes against gays. RA 8551 set up women’s desks in all police stations in the country.
