Truck crushes biker in Valenzuela

MANILA, Philippines - A cargo truck crushed to death a man riding a motorcycle along McArthur Highway in Dalandanan, Valenzuela City Saturday night.

Rolando Calopez, 38, was waiting for the green light at around 10:30 p.m. when the cargo truck, driven by Manuel Besona, rammed into other vehicles. The impact reportedly threw Calopez under the truck, which subsequently ran over him.

Besona said he was sorry for the accident. He said the truck’s brakes failed and he was unable to control the vehicle.

He is currently in the custody of the Valenzuela police and is facing charges of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide and multiple damage to property.
