MANILA, Philippines - A man was stabbed after he helped stop a fleeing man who snatched a necklace from a passenger in a bus in Quezon City Friday afternoon.

Ferdinand Nicolas, 45, suffered a stab wound in the left arm, according to Superintendent Pedro Sanchez, commander of the Quezon City Police District Station 2.

The passenger, Analyn Ching, 25, was on a bus on EDSA’s northbound lane when Garry Advincula allegedly grabbed her necklace. He and an unidentified companion tried to get off the bus at the corner of EDSA and Congressional Avenue.

Nicolas heard Ching scream for help and restrained Advincula, 22. Advincula stabbed Nicolas and managed to get off the bus, Sanchez said.

The injured Nicolas and other passengers ran after Advincula. Police officers patrolling the area noticed the commotion and cornered the fleeing suspect.

The lawmen seized a fan knife and a cross pendant, worth P18,000, from Advincula. The pendant hung on a necklace snatched from Ching.
