Guard kills teen for grabbing his gun

MANILA, Philippines - A security guard killed a 16-year-old boy who reportedly tried to steal his service firearm in Valenzuela City before dawn yesterday.

Jose Reynaldo Ocampo, 40, who works for the Night Owl Security Agency, surrendered to police after shooting Oliver Malvar.

Ocampo was manning his post in front of a drugstore when Malvar, armed with a kitchen knife, approached him and tried to grab the pistol at past 3 a.m., according to a police report.

Ocampo said he was able to subdue Malvar, but the teenager tried to escape, prompting him to shoot. Malvar died of a gunshot wound in the nape.

Investigators recovered a spent .38 caliber shell and a kitchen knife at the crime scene.
