Girl killed, 2 others hurt in road mishap
MANILA, Philippines - A six-year-old girl was killed while two others were hurt as the drivers of a pickup and a passenger jeepney reportedly raced against each other in Valenzuela City yesterday.
Juan Docunayan, 67, was driving a Ford Ranger along McArthur Highway when his vehicle hit a jeepney driven by Lito de Guzman just before noon, according to Police Officer 2 Nestor Arcitio. The two motorists were reportedly trying to outpace the other, he added.
Docunayan hit Celso Carisma, 45, who was crossing the road. Carisma slammed against the windshield of a parked L-300 van, Arcitio said.
Docunayan’s pickup then hit a pedicab driven by Ruel de Vera, 42. De Vera’s daughter, who was in the pedicab, died on the spot, according to Arcitio. De Vera was brought to the Philippine Orthopedic Hospital, Arcitio added.
Docunayan and De Guzman were held and questioned on the incident, the police officer said.
