Parañaque OKs lone bidder for P101-M garbage collection deal
MANILA, Philippines - Only one company is qualified to bid for the P101-million garbage collection contract in Parañaque City, an official said Wednesday.
In a pre-bidding conference at the bids and awards committee (BAC) office, city administrator Fernando Soriano announced that only Leonel Waste Management Corp. is qualified to participate in the bidding process.
He said two other firms sent letters of intent but did not submit the required documents.
The contract covers garbage collection services from Oct. 1 to Dec. 31.
Leonel earlier bagged an emergency garbage collection contract in Parañaque City last July.
Heaps of garbage dotted Parañaque’s roads after the previous contractor reportedly stopped collecting garbage two weeks before the contract ended on June 30.
City hall sources said a number of contractors backed out as they had a difficult time securing bid documents. The contractors complained that the BAC office was either closed or its officers were busy attending meetings elsewhere.
Some contractors who secured application forms a day before the deadline asked for more time, but the BAC rejected their request, the sources said.
The city government set the pre-bidding conference Wednesday and the bidding proper, wherein qualified participants will submit sealed bids, is set on Sept. 24.
Statistics show that Parañaque City’s 16 barangays generate an average of 362 tons of trash each day.
