Downpour floods 3 cities

Mike Frialde - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - A sudden downpour flooded some parts of Quezon City, Pasig City and Valenzuela City yesterday afternoon.

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Flood Control and Information Center said that as of 5 p.m., it was still monitoring the flood along McArthur Road in Valenzuela – from BBB to Fatima University – where the floodwaters reached 28 inches deep, making the stretch not passable to all types of vehicles.

Floodwaters reached 10 inches in Timog, Kamuning-EDSA, East Avenue, BIR Road and Kalayaan Avenue in Quezon City.

The MMDA also reported heavy flooding near a supermarket along C-5 Road in Pasig City.

Vehicular traffic slowed to a crawl in flooded areas, particularly along EDSA’s northbound lane, as motorists tried to avoid the flooded sections, the MMDA said.

Floodwaters in Pasig and Quezon City subsided by 6 p.m., the MMDA said.
