Cracks in rail tracks stop MRT trains

Rainier Allan Ronda - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The Metro Rail Transit (MRT) suspended operations for more than an hour yesterday afternoon after finding cracks in its southbound tracks between its Santolan and Ortigas stations.

MRT operations manager Renato San Jose said they installed braces on the cracked tracks as a temporary measure. He said the cracked tracks will be replaced at the end of the day’s operations.

San Jose said the tracks of the 13-year-old rail line have not seen replacement. He admitted that certain sections of the 16.9-kilometer railway need to be replaced with new ones.
