MANILA, Philippines - A village chairman who was seeking re-election in Tondo, Manila was shot dead in the barangay’s hall yesterday morning.

It was too early to say if the killing of Barangay 103 chairman Rolando Reyes was election-related, said Inspector Steve Casimiro, who heads the Manila Police District’s homicide division.

According to reports, two unidentified attackers barged into the barangay hall in Balut and shot Reyes at around 9 a.m. Reyes’ wife, Marilou; barangay peacekeeper Juanito Fausto; and street child Adrian Dagio were also hit by bullets but doctors declared them to be safe.
