Reward up for arrest of village chief’s gunman

Ramil Bajo, Rey Galupo - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Caloocan City Mayor Oscar Malapitan yesterday offered a P100,000 reward for any information that would lead to the arrest of the suspect in the shooting of a barangay chairman in North Caloocan last week.

Malapitan put up the bounty for the immediate arrest of the gunman of Felipe Alday, chairman of Barangay 178 in Camarin, who was seriously wounded in the attack, said city police chief Senior Superintendent Bernard Tambaoan.

Tambaoan said they have the artist’s sketch of the suspect based on witnesses’ account.

Alday, 59, was having his breakfast at a carinderia at the corner of Durian and Sampaloc streets when the suspect shot him at close range on Aug. 28.

Another suspect served as a lookout, police said.

Witnesses told police that the suspects escaped on a motorcycle with no license plates after the incident.

Alday, who is running for re-election in the coming barangay polls, remains in critical condition at an undisclosed hospital.
