Fires hit Novaliches, Caloocan

MANILA, Philippines - A fire broke out at a residential area in Novaliches, Quezon City Saturday, leaving 10 families homeless.

Senior Fire Officer 3 Jose Felipe of the Quezon City fire department said they have yet to determine the cause of the blaze, which destroyed six houses in Barangay Gulod.

Felipe said firefighters had a difficult time putting out the fire because of the area’s narrow roads. The residents were also busy trying to save their personal belongings, he said.

The fire started at around 3 a.m. and reached the third alarm. It was put out after two hours.

In Caloocan City, a fire struck Barangay 120 along 2nd Avenue also on Saturday.

Arson probers said at least 20 families lost their homes.

The fire lasted for about two hours before it was declared under control.

Authorities said nine houses made of light materials were razed.

Residents in the area said the fire started in the house of a certain Remy.

No one was reported injured in the twin fires.
