Mandaluyong to install CCTV cameras at police stations

Non Alquitran - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The Mandaluyong City government will install closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras at its police stations to make all transactions transparent, Mayor Benhur Abalos said yesterday.

Abalos said his goal is not only to prevent illegal transactions in police stations, especially at anti-illegal drug units, but also to save honest police officers from negative accusations.

He said he has yet to consult with city police chief Senior Superintendent Florendo Quibuyen “to determine whether we are violating any law or not. Once the coast is clear, the project is a go.”

Abalos noted that some police officers are honest but have been accused by criminals or their relatives of extortion and other irregularities.
