MANILA, Philippines - A man was arrested Saturday after he reportedly broke into the sport utility vehicle of a Pasay City official Friday night and stole some items left in the car.
Manuel Manabat was apprehended after police officers received a tip on the identities of those who forced open the Toyota Fortuner of city treasurer Manuel Leycano as it was parked at a mall, city police chief Senior Superintendent Rodolfo Llorca said.
The thieves took away a sling bag owned by Leycano’s driver and bodyguard, which contained a gun magazine, wallet, and several identification and bank cards. The items were recovered in Manabat’s possession.
Llorca said a group allegedly led by Manabat uses boys as parking attendants. The boys stay close to the car’s back doors and prevent them from locking.
He advised motorists to recheck their door locks before leaving the parking area.
