MANILA, Philippines - One of two teenagers was beaten to death by angry bystanders when the cabbie the teenagers had just robbed repeatedly honked the taxi’s horn following the heist in Quezon City Thursday night.
Aron Concepcion, 18, died at the Quezon City General Hospital at past 4 a.m. yesterday while his companion, Christian de Guzman, 19, has been detained after he was treated for bruises, said Chief Superintendent Richard Albano, director of the Quezon City Police District.
The incident happened at past 11 p.m. Thursday when both men flagged down the cab driven by Ildefonso Ferrer in Barangay Mariana, said Inspector Elmer Monsalve.
They robbed Ferrer of P4,500 at knifepoint, then fled on foot. The taxi driver, however, locked the vehicle’s doors and repeatedly pressed on the horn, alerting bystanders to the fleeing teenagers, Monsalve said.
Responding policemen and watchmen eventually pacified the people who beat up the teenagers.
Monsalve said complaints could be filed against those who attacked the two suspects but the teenagers – or their relatives – would have to press charges. He said investigators have yet to verify the identities of those who beat up the two men.
