Family driver nabbed for P5.9-M theft

Reinir Padua - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - A family driver was arrested on Wednesday night for allegedly stealing P5.9 million worth of jewelry and cash from his employer’s home in Quezon City.

Jayson Santos, 25, was arrested by policemen based on the complaint of 60-year-old businesswoman Maria Garcia, his employer for nearly two years.

Santos was charged with qualified theft, Police Officer 2 Roldan Cornejo said.

Garcia told police she had just finished taking a shower when she saw Santos run out of her bedroom at past 8 a.m. on Aug. 20. He did not heed her calls and proceeded to go out of her condominium unit on Panay Avenue.

She then noticed her valuables were missing, prompting her to seek help from a building guard, who told Santos to return to his boss’ unit.

When the woman confronted the suspect, Santos initially denied taking them, saying he was only in the room to clean it up. The items remain missing, Cornejo said.
