MANILA, Philippines - The Marikina River has reached alert level 2 on Sunday evening due to the heavy downpour, prompting several families to evacuate.
The Public Information Office (PIO) of the Marikina City government said on its Twitter account that the waters of Marikina River have reached 16 meters as of 10:37 p.m.
The Marikina City PIO said some families have been evacuated as of 11 p.m.:
- Bulelak Gym: 23 families / 113 persons
- Concepcion Elementary school: 16 families / 68 persons
- H.Bautista Elementary school: 43 Families / 229 persons
- Nangka Elementary school: 20 families / 93 persons
Marikina Mayor Del de Guzman has suspended classes in all levels in both public and private schools for Monday, August 19.
The city government's PIO also said that the Marikina Sumulong underloop bridge is currently not passable while the Katipunan exit, Rainbow, Tangerine and Pio Del Pilar are not passable to light vehicles.
