QC to operate own crematory, columbarium

Janvic Mateo - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines -The Quezon City government is set to develop another city-owned crematorium and columbarium that will offer low-cost cremation and burial services for residents.

Mayor Herbert Bautista recently directed civil registry chief Ramon Matabang to look for an area in the second district where a columbarium and a crematorium can be constructed. The district has the largest population in the city.

At present, the city government is in the process of converting Baesa Cemetery into a similar establishment for families who want their deceased relatives cremated and placed in a columbarium instead of being buried or placed in an apartment-type niche.

The mayor earlier said the Baesa Cemetery can be utilized better if it would be developed into a columbarium as it would accommodate more dead people.

The city maintains the Bagbag Cemetery for those who wish to bury their relatives.
