NBI gets leads on Miranda sex video uploader
MANILA, Philippines - The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has obtained “some logs†that could be used to pinpoint the person who uploaded the sex video of Parokya ni Edgar vocalist Chito Miranda on the Internet.
NBI cybercrime division chief Ronald Aguto said the logs or the Internet protocol (IP) addresses will be forwarded to the telecommunication companies for possible identification of the owners.
“We have good leads to pursue,†Aguto told reporters.
Aguto said his office is looking at several legal techniques to solve Miranda’s case. Among them are coordinating with the telecommunication firms and using mutual legal assistance treaty.
But before the NBI could use them, the agency would need a formal complaint, which Miranda submitted to Aguto’s office yesterday morning.
In a separate interview, Miranda said he wanted to know the person behind the leak.
Miranda claimed that he still does not know who stole his computer’s hard drive. “There’s no trace (that could say it was burglary),†he said.
Miranda’s private video with girlfriend Neri Naig was leaked this earlier month. Naig was “devastated†but they are dealing with it positively, said Miranda.
According to Miranda, the NBI started the probe even before he decided to file a formal complaint. Miranda said he would prefer that the scandal die a natural cause, “but the fight is for my girlfriend.â€
According to Aguto, those behind the video leak and those who shared it, say through Facebook or other social networking sites, can be charged for violating the anti-voyeurism law.
